How to use icons in social media
- 1
Pick your brand color
Set the color above. For highlight covers, white icons on a colored circle or a colored icon on a light background both read well at small sizes.
- 2
Download PNG at 1024px
Large PNGs stay sharp when the app scales them. The transparent background lets you place them on any color.
- 3
Make a highlight cover
In Canva or any editor, create a 1080 by 1920 canvas, fill the background, and center the icon at about 400px wide so it survives the circular crop.
- 4
Upload
On Instagram, open a highlight, choose Edit highlight, Edit cover, and pick the image. For posts and carousels, place icons next to short labels.
Tips
- Keep the icon in the middle third of a highlight cover. The circle crop cuts the corners.
- Use the same icon size and position on every slide of a carousel so swiping feels steady.
- Pair line icons with bold short text. Thin detail disappears on a phone feed.
Questions
What size should Instagram highlight cover icons be?
Make the cover 1080 by 1920px and center an icon about 400px wide, so it stays inside the circular crop. Download the icon PNG at 1024px.
Can I use these icons for brand and business accounts?
Yes. They are free for commercial use, including brand accounts, ads and client social media work.
Can I sell highlight cover packs made with these icons?
No. Selling the icons themselves or as highlight cover packs counts as reselling the icons. Using them on your own or a client's account is fine.
